The Office of the President has morphed into something closer to a monarchy

Our founding fathers made Congress the strongest branch of the US government, not a single chief executive in the office of President. But these days, Americans tend to view the President of the United States as all-powerful. Some think the president has power over everything from the economy to foreign policy. He can control the price of food, drugs, gas, your mortgage, and more. He's supposed to create high-paying jobs and (as was the case with President Obama) provide you with free phones and other stuff.

“I've got news for you, none of these things are the president's job, none of them. I know, I've read his job description. You'll find it a little document called 'the Constitution'," said Glenn Beck on today's show, a chalkboard account of our county's trend toward “Presidential Overreach".

According to Article One of the United States Constitution, all legislative powers are granted to Congress, not the president:

All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.

Our founders made Congress the strongest branch of government because it represented the people, indirectly through the Senate and directly through the House. The president was not meant to have the power even to make laws, but today, the US Presidency is often referred to as the most powerful office in the world. The "Office of the President has morphed into something closer to a monarchy," said Glenn.

"Our founders believed firmly in the right and ability of people to self-govern, so they made Congress the strongest branch of government," said Glenn. "The founders believed that we the people would protect individual liberty by limiting government powers , especially a one-man executive."
