Pentagon Monitoring Apparent Missile Launch From North Korea

Japanese and South Korean officials say North Korea has launched what appears to be a ballistic missile. Reports suggest that the missile may have landed in the waters off the coast of Japan.

Earlier this month, Pyongyang said they had successfully tested an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) for the first time. The range on the latest missile test is unknown. Some experts believe the range of North Korea's ICBM could allow it to reach Alaska or Hawaii.

The Pentagon says they're closely monitoring the situation. Over the last year, the U.S., South Korea, and Japan have been concerned over the progress of North Korea's nuclear program.

If the launch is confirmed, it would be the 14th missile test by North Korea in 2017.
